REMEMBERING NARAYAN CHITAPPA.
I had known Narayanan Chitappa right
from my marriage in 1975. By marriage he had become my close relation Chitappa.
Apart from that there were many things in common. Both of us hailed from the same
city Bombay known for its multi cultural hue and both of us had same background in work. I was then working with
a pharmaceutical company E-Merck so was Chitappa in Fizer.
Apart from that what appealed to me
was his unfailing enthusiasm for life. As after marriage I was no more a Bombyite
and we used to meet only occasions and
functions as well during my occasional visits to Bombay during holidays when I always
used to make it to Chedda nagar to meet the three chitti’s and their families.
I remember their visit to Dehradun where we were stationed and both of them had
come over during the vacations.
None of the important functions in
our family used to take place without Narayan chitappa’s and Shanta’s participation.
For both my son’s marriages in Chennai and Delhi they had come down to bless
the couples. The visit to Rajamundry was memorable. It was on the occasion of
Venkatraman’s 60th birthday .
Further Chitappa had a great spirit for
helping the lesser fortunate in socially active institutions. I think they had
some good period of life at Poona for nearly seven years, post retirement where Chitappa was recounting
working for a institution connected with community activity. Also at Mumbai he
was associated with Dharmasthan where they are involved in facilitating doing
last rites for the departed. Thus his spirit had taken him into activities
where many may not be forthcoming and taking up lead roles.
At this hour grief our regards and
respect to his great spirit which I am sure would have been involved in many more
noble activities than what I am recounting with my little knowledge. Its sad he
has been taken away from our midst. But lets remember him on the life which he lead with zest and enthusiasm. May
his soul rest in Peace.
